The Word for today is found in Luke 10:38-42

V38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. V39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus feet and heard His Word. V40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” V41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. V42 “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

I am speaking to women in general now, women who spend so much time doing busy work and never sit at the feet of Jesus. They are either running children from place to place, or chairing this or that. They do really good things, but what does it amount to in the end if you do not have a full knowledge of the Word in your life?

Doing good things (“works” in the language of Scripture) will not bring you stability in hard times, nor will they count for eternity.

The things we invest in spiritually by the study of the Word and prayer is what really counts with Jesus.

I cannot help others to obtain the really important things in life if I have not myself sought knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs says that to obtain knowledge and get understanding is better than getting silver and gold.

We all need to take the clutter out of our lives and sit our flesh down to study the Word.

Then you will build a foundation that will last for all eternity. It will take some real will power because your flesh would rather do busy work than to study the Word.

Study, that you will be a workman who will speak the truth and not be ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15).

Love in Christ, Pastor Louise
