The Word for today is found in Hebrews 12:1-6

1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:

“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.” (NKJV)

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” (NIV)

How easy is it for sin to grab hold of you? It is really easy, and particularly if you do not pray and put God’s word first in your life.

Prayer will reveal your shortcomings if you will but open yourself up to the revealing light of the Holy Spirit. God’s word will tell you how to get out of the thing you have become ensnared in.

All of this is dependent on your willingness to allow God to work in your life.

Sin will bring you down and keep you from walking into the best God has for you. Sin can be the big ones that no one can miss, and it can be the little ones that you may not be aware of. That is why you need to allow the Holy Spirit to show you where you are missing it.

God corrects us through his Word, not by putting bad things on us such as sickness. On the other hand, when we are in disobedience to the Word then we put ourselves out there to have Satan take his best shot at us.

You can’t expect God to heal you if you’re not walking in faith, and you can’t walk in faith if there is sin in your life.

Find what it is that is putting a barrier up between you and God. Then deal with it.
