The Word for today is found in Deuteronomy 5:16

16Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (KJV)
16“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you. (NIV)

Some people think that the Words of the Old Testament do not apply also to those of us in the modern Church. But God did not do away with the Old; he just made it better.

This verse is so relevant for parents and children today. When children wonder way it has not gone well with them, they need to examine their relationship with their parents. I see such disrespect from children today, and, equally important, parents who are so willing to either overlook it or do not want to deal with it.

My son said once that going into Marines would be a piece of cake after growing up with his mother. I took that as a compliment and knew I was doing the job God had called me to do.

You are not called to be your child’s friend but his parent. One day your relationship will change and move into the friendship area, but, as they grow up, your job is to be their parent.

Teach your children in the way of the Lord and when they grow up they will not depart from it.
Love in Christ, Pastor Louise.
