The Word for today is found in Titus 3:1

“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work.”

Let us look at this verse in more depth.

“Subject to rulers and authority.”

To be in authority one must first learn how to be under authority.

You can always tell when someone has never learned authority. They are lacking in the skills to rule people and do not understand what it takes to be a leader of men.

God always promotes from the bottom up. He never puts a novice in a ruling position but requires instead that one must prove themselves first. People will exalt themselves to a higher position, but it will usually lead to a great fall. There will be causalities along the way, for one never really goes down alone. What you do in this life will have an effect on those around you.

We all are under some kind of authority. I may be the authority in the jail ministry, but at home I am subject to my husband’s authority. I am also under the authority of my pastor and most of all to our Lord Jesus Christ.

My husband is under the authority of the Dean of the College of Arts and Science at the University of Alabama, but when he is in the classroom he is the authority.

We all change hats but there is always an authority above us that we must learn how to submit to. If you cannot submit to a higher authority, how are you going to submit to the authority of God’s Word?
